The Argentine Assciation of Polo (AAP) Headquarters, set in Pilar, greeted the last league games of the 60th. Jockey Club Open, the tournament that preceeds the Triple Crown, in Argentina, and sees six teams up to 33 goals, partake. It’s worth to note that the las qualification day took place on the same day the AAP celebrated its 103rd. anniversary, Sunday September 14.
La Irenita and Kazak played the first contest of the day. The French-based organisation, that advanced to the semifinals of the Open de France, aimed to do the same at the Jockey Club Open. With Lorenzo Chavanne as their leading man (he produced nine goals), Kazak won 13-10 and earned the ticket to semifinals. Kazak’s victory secured Pilot a spot in the next stage, as well.
Scone and La Aguada clashed in the second match of the day. Both teams were due to play a crucial match, since they lost in their respective debuts against La Hache – that meant that the two of them needed a win to get through the semis. Scone and La Aguada played a hard fought contest, and when Scone’s victory seemed said and done, La Aguada bounced back and managed to remain one goal behind with less than one minute remaining in regulation time. But with only seconds to go, Scone’s Poroto Cambiaso, produced a couple of goals, to gave Scone no only a 15-13 victory but also the last spot in the semis.
The semifinals of the 60th. Jockey Club Open will be played on Wednesday September 17, with the following order of play:
1pm: Kazak vs Scone
3,30pm: La Hache vs Pilot
(Argentina times)
