Jean-Paul Luskic’s, Gaston, has just claimed the Trippetts Challenge, the first 22-goal team hosted by Cowdray Park Polo Club, following a 13-11 win over the defending champions, UAE; a victory that have given them the best start of the season in England.

Cruz Heguy, who was already in the team last year, spoke to PoloLine about what this achievement means for the organisation and his expectations for what’s coming up next – the Queen’s Cup and the Gold Cup.

First and foremonst, well done and congratulations. Why did Gaston claimed the title?

Thank you! It was a remarkable contest, indeed. I think we were able to develop our own system of play, which is very important with the Queen’s Cup just around the corner. The three games we played in the Trippetts Challege we could play well, with confidence, and I think it’s a great step further.

You played the final of the Prince of Wales Trophy last year, and now you win the Trippetts Challenge. Do you see it as a rematch?

Yes, I think so. We were close to win the Prince of Wales Trophy last year, but we were unable to win. However, it’s always good to reach the final in the first tournament of the season; it gives you confidence, you look things from another perspective. This year we decided to come to Cowdray; I’ve never played the Trippetts Challenge, and to be honest, it is a fabulous tournament to play. The grounds are in top form and the weather is amazing. It was a lot of fun.

How did you put the lineup together, with Sapo Caset and Gonzalo Ferrari?

We started to put it together by the end of the season. It happened that I remained a 7-goaler and Sapo didn’t have a team yet, so he was happy to join. We get along very well, my father (NR: Eduardo Heguy) have known him for several years, I played with him in Sotogrande and other tournaments, as well. And Gonzalo Ferrari is a remarkable player; I didn’t know much about him, but he is a great person. The four of us make a great team.

The Queen’s Cup is coming up now. How are you preparing for the next step?

Well, we don’t have many time, we will play our first match of the Queen’s Cup next Thursday, so today we will celebrate, but we have to get things ready quickly. We aim to give our best to be among the top teams. We are determined to give everything to go as far as we can.

Nineteen teams are competing in the Queen’s Cup. How do you see them?

They are great teams, all of them. I’ve also seen the Prince of Wales Trophy and all those played at Cowdray. The level of play is very high and anyone are able to win. The upcoming Queen’s Cup will be a remarkable competition.
