Alfie Hyde is, without doubts, having the time of his life, and Cowdray Park Polo Club is seeing the young English player at his best. He won the Dollar Cup, with Ferne Park, and one week later, he claimed the Duke of Sutherland Cup, playing with La Irenita MB, alongside Prince Mateen Bolkiah, Bartolomé Castagnola Jr. (who subbed in for Pablo MacDonough and Matías MacDonough Jr.
Following his double success, Alfie spoke to PoloLine about his current present and his enthusiasm for what’s coming up next.
How did you feel to play with two winners of the Argentine Open, like Pablo and Barto?
It’s incredible to me, I learned a lot from them, specially from Pablo, whom I shared this tournament (NR: Duke of Sutherland Cup) the most. He was replaced by Barto Castagnola, and seeing him playing alongside me is a great feeling, he is a fantastic player. Pablo was in the ponylines giving us a hand, an advide. He always says you must learn from the mistakes and bounce back as soon as possible in order to keep playing. It was, indeed, a reamarkable tournament.
You played a very special game, because your contenders are your team mates in the Royal Windsor. How do you manage between tournaments?
Well, to be honest, is quite difficult. I am big friends with Mackie (NR: Mackenzie Weisz) and Felipe (NR: Felipe Dabas), whom, as you say, we are playing the Royal Windsor Cup. When this happens, it’s hard because you don’t want to see your friend feeling bad, but one aims to win. But this sports has these things – one day is with them, the next week is against them.
After winning the Dollar Cup and the Duke of Sutherland Cup, do you feel this is your best moment within the season, or there’s more to come?
I hope there’s more to come. It was a great weekend, because I also played the quarter finals of the Queen’s Cup with Dubai, and beat UAE, so I am happy for that too. I am speechless, I am very happy about how things are going for me, and enjoying every second of it.
What is coming up for you after the Royal Windsor Cup?
I am going to play the Indian Empire Shield, with La Irenita MB again and I think it will be the same lineup, in addition to some 12-goal tournament as well.
