The current edition of the British Open Polo Championship for the Cowdray Gold Cup has the return of a significant club; however, not as a contender but as a spot to host the games of the most important tournament of the season in England – Stedham Polo Club, which is located nearby Cowdray Park Polo Club.
The club was founded more than thirty years ago by the legendary Australian patron and businessman, Kerry Packer, as the base of Ellerston in Europe. But unfortunately, and within the years, the club almost vanished from English polo, until now, when Gus Aguirre’s family decided it was time to resurface this spot.
Stedham is now one of the club that hosts games of the British Open, and Gus Aguirre spoke to PoloLine about the history of the club, how the decision has been made and what are the plans for the future.
