The season in Sotogrande, hosted by Ayala Polo Club, was officially launched in a press conference that took place in Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol, in La Alcaidesa, close to the spot where the polo tournaments will be held from next week onwards.
Paola Zobel, the owner of Ayala Polo Club Iñigo Zobel’s daughter, who’s also works with Minuto Siete on the organisation of the polo season in the area, spoke to PoloLine about her expectations on what’s coming up.
What are your expectations about the upcoming season at Ayala Polo Club? What are the main changes since you took this challenge, five years ago?
Yes, it is out fifth year organising the polo season in Sotogrande, and it is indeed a challenge for us. We have to improve and grow every year. I feel everything is very productive. I really don’t feel there are many changes, because we work all year long to prepare the season, which, for the moment, only lasts four months. Our idea is trying to expand it in years to come, bring more teams
How about this year, with many more high goals teams and players due to compete?
I think there will be a great level of polo and it will be demonstrated through the dynamics of the sport; and not only by the most seasoned players but also with the younger, who are growing and improving all the time. Having this level of tournaments in Sotogrande, places as as a reference of the sport within the area. We work hard in order to achieve this goal. Many new teams come to play here, they stay here, and that’s fantastic, because encourage more teams to try the experience.
