The British Open Polo Championship for the Cowdray Gold Cup saw narrow wins for Dubai and UAE, in the first day of competition; a very successful start for the two organisations from the Middle East, indeed.
UAE, who won the tournament in 2023, beat Park Place, the recent winners of the Queen’s Cup, led by powerful performances delivered by Juan Martín Nero and Lukin Monteverde, with the latter producing crucial goals to secure the final result.
PoloLine had the opportunity to speak to Lukin, who remarked the team’s attitude and determination to hold their contenders back during a hard fought last chukka; he praised his team mates, Juanma Nero and Santos Merlos, a great deal, and spoke about UAE’s expectations in the current British Open.
