La Dolfina Marqués de Riscal will play their first ever final of the Queen’s Cup, against no less than Park Place, a lineup that had already played several finals at Guards Polo Club, but they were never able to win. La Dolfina and Marqués de Riscal have joined forces, and aim to win a title; they they failed to make it at the US Open, when they lost against La Dolfina Tamera, with Adolfo Cambiaso in the lineup.

La Dolfina Marqués de Riscal made a great comeback in England, although without the injured Alejandro Aznar and Carlos María Ulloa, who had to leave on handicap reasons. Both have been subbed in by Luis Aznar and Lucas Criado Jr., respectively. In the semifinal, they clashed against King Power and they sealed the deal, after a remarkable second half.

Following the win, Poroto Cambiaso – who is about to play his third final of the Queen’s Cup – spoke to PoloLine about the current moment of the team, and a possible rematch of the final they lost in 2024 against Talandracas.

What did you change to overturn a very tough game?

I guess it’s because we were playing with two changes. We took some time to speak during the half time, and slow down a bit. As a conclusion, we decided we had to hit the ball better and not too fast as we were doing, because we realise we made many mistakes. So, when we slowed down, we played better. That’s what we did in the second half.

How do you see the team in the current English season?

Well, it’s unfortunate we don’t have Alejandro, who had a fall in the second match. Not the fall, however, his mare kicked him and broke his ribs, so the recovery will take longer. And Toly (NR: Carlos María Ulloa) had to leave on handicap reasons, that’s why we have Lucas Criado. Fortunately, we will have Alejandro back in the Gold Cup. With regards to the team, it was a bit difficult on the first day because we didn’t know each other that well, but we improved in every match. I can say the semifinal was out best game.

You are due to clash against Park Place in the final, whom you already defeated in the league stage. Do you think this could change in the deciding game?

All the matches are different; that does not mean we’re better because we won in the league stage. Park Place is a great team and they knew how to win. They demonstrated their guts against Ojo Caliente, which was a crucial match for them. What I think is that the final will be a completely different contest. It’s good to have played against them before, but I feel this will be a very balanced game.

Last year you lost the Queen’s final against Talandracas. Are you going for the rematch now?

Indeed! I love to play these games, they always motivate you. And I hope this time we are able to win.
