One of the most awaited moments of the 126th Hurlingham Open was the clash between La Dolfina and Las Monjitas. While La Dolfina beat the orange team in last year’s semifinals, in 2017, Alegria, boasting three of the current Las Monjitas players, defeated the Cañuelas based foursome. This semifinal, then, brought much expectation.

La Dolfina dominated the first half of the match, taking advantage of several fouls made by their opponents. Juan Martin Nero’s performance was overwhelming; he excelled nit only in defence but also in attack, scoring at every opportunity (he converted a total of eleven goals).

But Las Monjitas made an impressive comeback in the second half; they scored five consecutive goals to narrow the gap to just one goal. They missed an opportunity to tie the match 13-all after a 60 yard penalty by Sapo Caset hit the post. Las Monjitas pushed hard, but La Dolfina were able to hold their ground. They won the match 17-14 and qualified for the final.

La Dolfina will meet Ellerstina in the championship match on Saturday at Palermo. The Pieres will be fighting for their fourth consecutive Hurlingham Open title.
