By Diana Butler La Bamba De Areco, featuring the 10-goal skills of Facundo Pieres, secured their first Cartier Queen’s Cup league match of 2012 at Coworth Park this afternoon. Jean Francois Decaux’s team, quarter-finalists in last year’s competition, dominated this game, leading every chukka. And although the red shirts do feature one of the greatest players of the game, this victory was very much a team effort. Decaux scored in the second and the young Englishman, Max Routledge also showed that he was handy when it came to finding the flags. Facundo’s younger brother Nico, who has already impressed with his confident and fast play, clearly demonstrated that he has inherited plenty of his family’s polo genes and scored several times too. In reply Stefan Marsaglia’s Piaget just couldn’t find a way to get ahead of their rivals. Although they scored in every chukka, they were trailing by at least three goals throughout the second half of the match. This means that they will have to up their game quite considerably if they are to register one victory in this competition as their final league opposition is against Richard Mille. The latter defeated La Bamba last weekend and are definitely one of the teams to watch in this competition. Tomorrow’s games: League Three: Zacara v Salkeld at Coworth Park at 12 noon. League One: Talandracas v Ayala at Guards Polo Club at 3pm.
