      Casablanca

New products and new technologies for polo players

An interview with the company’s Vice President, Alejandro Viel Temperley
      July 11, 2012
      By Alejandra Ocampos

Casablanca is a renowned brand that supplies polo equipment and accessories combining excellence and the highest technology in each of its products. The use of materials such as leather, carbon fiber or neoprene, provide players with the highest quality and safety, and in turn, each of these products, that is to say, helmets, saddles, kneepads and gloves, among others, are tailored to fit the needs of each polo player.

Alejandro Viel Temperley, the Vice President of Casablanca, spoke with PoloLine about the brand’s novelties and advances, and how it has developed over the years.

What are the latest products launched into the market by Casablanca?
Casablanca has recently launched three products. The C6 Helmet, which is the only polo helmet on the market that meets the NOCSAE safety standard, recommended by the United States Polo Association. Therefore, we can say that this is the safest helmet in the world.
The C2 Helmet is C6 Helmet’s younger brother. It is a polo helmet made of carbon fiber and d3o, as is the case with the C6 model, and is almost as safe as the latter though it is lighter and features a single, regular fastening strap instead of three straps.
And last but not least, leg protection for horses. Our new Skid Boots / Leg Protectors made of neoprene to adjust perfectly to horses’ legs which come with a layer of d3o material to absorb all types of knocks.

How is Casablanca’s technology developed in the manufacturing of your various products?
We are constantly looking into other disciplines, keeping an eye on technologies used in other sports that are as dangerous or extreme as polo, besides we are in constant contact with professional polo players who tell us about their needs so we can turn them into a reality.

What materials does Casablanca usually use to manufacture helmets, elbow pads, kneepads, etc.?
We use various materials. Premium quality selected leather for all leather products; carbon fiber for helmets, and d3o (shock-absorbing material) in most of our products to provide the best protection.
Our products are manufactured under very strict quality standards and are sold with international warranty coverage.

How has Casablanca evolved in terms of product manufacturing? That is to say, as regards materials, use of technology, advances in terms of safety, etc...
Eight years ago, when our brand came into being, safety was almost non-existent in this sport, and the growth of professionalism in polo was greatly stepping up its level of competition, which, in turn, was increasing its dangerousness. For example, helmets used to be mere fiberglass shells lined with fabric and the inside was made of cork, and they were used for years on end without being changed for new ones.
There was a great need for safety as regards the equipment used, and this is what led us to start up Casablanca in order to offer maximum safety, the best service worldwide and constant progress in terms of new technology implementation in our products.
