Sotogrande experienced a fantastic day of polo at Santa Maria Polo Club with the Gold Cup high goal final. The presence of King Juan Carlos and his daughter HRM Infanta Elena made the day particularly special. HM the King personally handed the trophy to champions Ayala - captain Íñigo Zóbel, Gregorio Gelosi, Santiago Laborde and Facundo Pieres. Infanta Doña Elena presented the BPP prize.

Ayala Polo Team beat La Indiana 13-8 to claim the high goal Gold Cup, the most important trophy of the 46th Torneo Internacional de Polo. Philippine patron Iñigo Zobel won the trophy ten years after his last win in Sotogrande.

It was a well deserved victory for a team that maintained an incredible level the entire season. Ayala, lead by Facundo Pieres, dominated the game from the very beginning. Despite La Indiana's perseverance, Ayala's solid team play - and the countless goals converted by Pieres, top scorer of the final - gave Michael Bickford's teams no chances.

Facundo Pieres (Ayala Polo Team): "When Iñigo [Zobel] invited me to play with him last year, he told me he was going to play for two more years and then retire from high goal competition, and that would love to win the Gold Cup. We knew it was important for him, as it was for us, so this is a big achievement for any player. We played well today; we had a good plan and we knew what to do. We started the game on top - that was key for the performance of the team and gave our opponents no chances."

Iñigo Zobel (Ayala Polo Team): "It's a very important title for me as I am retiring from the high goal, so I am very happy to have won the Gold Cup."

MVP: Facundo Pieres
BPP: Cube (Facundo Pieres)
BPP Polo Argentino: Open Galáctica (property of Ellerstina / played by Facundo Pieres)
