By Gonzalo Etcheverry Ghantoot defeated Mahra by a 8-3 score, in today's single match of the Gold Cup, held at Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club. Ghantoot's win give the Royal Team a chance to advance to semifinals, which will be decided in the last qualifying games, due on Thursday and Friday. Ghantoot dominated the match and the score since the beginning, in a match that was played on a very hot afternoon in Dubai. Ghantoot had a commanding 5-2 lead by half time, which they reached in the second chukka, with goals by Juan Zubiaurre. Guy Gibrat scored Mahra's last goal in the fourth chukka, when the match was already on Ghantoot's side. Top scorer, Guy Gibrat (five goals) was the game's MVP. The last qualifying games will decide the four semifinalists. The best positioned teams are Habtoor, Abu Dhabi, Bin Drai and Ghantoot, all of them with two wins apiece. Meanwhile, Zedan, who defeated Abu Dhabi yesterday, needs a win over Bin Drai, in the competition's next match, on Thursday, to retain a chance. FACUNDO SOLA (Ghantoot) We had to win, and we did it. It was very important for us to get confidence again. We had great team play, Juan Zubiaurre was outstanding and so were Pelayo (Berazadi) and Ali (Al Merri). They helped a lot in this important victory. The goal difference was also very important, as we're many teams who are reaching a place into semis. Now we have to play the always strong Habtoor, in a match that will be like a final. However, we know all the matches will be like finals, all the teams are very tough, and we're all in search of the same goal, the Gold Cup.
